With the first snowfall upon us it brings up the topic of keeping your pets safe from the elements of winter. Remember, if it’s cold for you, it’s cold for your pet!!
Consider Boots
Salt used to melt ice can irritate paws. Consider using boots or washing your pet’s feet after walks.
A Jacket Can Help
Even though we often admire our pets’ beautiful fur coat, it is not a perfect insulator especially when it’s really cold out. When taking your pet out especially for a long period of time such as for a walk, a jacket or sweater can help protect your pet from extreme temperatures.
Keep Antifreeze Out of Reach
Antifreeze is a deadly poison. It has a sweet taste that attracts animals so be sure to pick up any spills immediately.
Watch for signs of Frostbite
Frostbite is often seen on tips of ear, the tail and the foot pads. Prevent frostbite by limiting your pet’s time outside.
It doesn't take much to keep our pets safe when things get cold. Just like us, our feline and canine friends need shelter, warmth and care.
