Casper's Dentistry

Casper our loveable clinic cat decided to take one for the team and help us promote Dental Health Month with a dentistry & even had it documented! The following photos will show you step by step Casper’s big day.

Casper patiently waiting to get started!

Casper is diabetic; surgery requires fasting so Casper’s vet tech must check his blood glucose before we start!

The glucometer reading is a little low but not concerning, we will check his blood glucose levels throughout surgery. Casper is given half of his regular insulin dosage today!

A little poke in his back end to help make him sleepy!!!!

The dental table all set up , looks pretty comfy to us!!! While he is under anesthesia his “vitals” ( heart rate, breathing, temperature, etc………) will be constantly monitored.

 Finally getting sleepy!!!!

Let’s add a little gas to help him fall asleep!

Casper’s vet tech checking his blood glucose levels again!!

Time to put his endotracheal tube in! (This will help him breath during the surgery, & will also prevent any water from going into his trachea & lungs.

Casper decided he did not want to co-operate when it came time to have a catheter and IV placed so his Doctor decided to have it put in while he was sleeping.

Nail trim time!!! Casper’s vet tech took advantage of the situation to get some well needed grooming done!

First we start scraping Casper’s teeth with hand scaling tools.

For difficult parts we use an ultrasonic scaler which helps break down calculus rapidly from the tooth surface.

Once all of the plaque & tarter is removed the doctor polishes his teeth to make them shiny and smooth!

Dentistry is done, now it is wake up time!!!!!!

Casper is a little grumpy!

Once awake Casper is free to roam the clinic & do what he pleases with his freshly cleaned mouth! First stop was the food bowl!
